The TransLatin@ Coalition stands with Black, Indigenous, Oaxacan, Central American, Trans, LGB+, and communities of color all over Los Angeles impacted by the racist, vile, and disenfranchising actions and comments made by Nury Martinez, Kevin de Leon, Gil Cedillo, and Ron Herrera.
As Trans, Gender non conforming, and Intersex members of these communities, we stand in solidarity in the calls for the immediate resignation of these individuals from the LA City Council.
The TransLatin@ Coalition’s work, mission, and values reflect the Los Angeles we know that can be possible and liberatory for all. We continue our advocacy, coalition work, and building community power that is inclusive and led by TGI, Black, Indigenous, Trans Latina im/migrants, and LA’s powerful, rich, and diverse communities of color.
Beyond accountability and reconciliation we demand an immediate resignation, and investigation into the calculated efforts by these elected officials to undermine, destabilize, and erase Black and Indigenous political power in LA.
“We cannot live in a city where the leadership of the city council is one that portrays discriminatory and marginalizing views. In order for our communities to heal from these atrocious comments, we need to ensure that the leadership of this city does right by our peoples and invests in our lives rather than make statements that belittle us as part of Los Angeles. We need to make the city and elected officials understand that they work for us. We will not tolerate these types of acts any longer!”
