Trans Policy Agenda 2024

The TransLatin@ Coalition is calling for a radical shift in the approach to Trans Liberation. For too long, the needs and experiences of transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex (TGI) individuals have been overlooked and misunderstood by external forces. It is time to reclaim our narrative and invest in solutions that are driven by and for our community.

A Quality of Life Study with Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, and Intersex (TGI) Adults in the City of Los Angeles

Using data gathered from first-person accounts, this study examines the needs of transgender, non-binary, and intersex adults who live, work, or receive services in the City of Los Angeles.

#TransPolicyAgenda

TLC released our policy agenda out of urgent necessity. In 2018 alone, 396 transgender people were murdered, with countless more unreported. Our community faces homelessness, rising HIV/STD rates, healthcare threats, and widespread institutional violence. The system is killing us.

The TransLatin@ Coalition serves the TGI community regardless of race, creed, age, size, immigration status, ability, or other marginalized identities. We demand resources and advocacy to address these systemic injustices. This policy agenda calls for legislative change and demands moral integrity from society as a whole.

The State of Trans Health: TransLatin@s and Their Healthcare Needs

The TransLatin@ Coalition aims to improve healthcare outcomes for Trans people in California. This report highlights the specific healthcare needs of Trans Latin@s in the southern region, providing evidence to guide effective support. While California leads the nation in Trans-inclusive legislation, there's still much needed to address the basic social needs of Trans Latin@s. We hope this report offers a roadmap to ensure Trans Latin@s access the resources they need to live healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives in California.

TransVisible: Transgender Latina Immigrants in US Society

This study highlights the social and legal barriers negatively impacting Trans Latina Immigrants. The data reveals that most of their challenges stem from structural or legislative issues. By sharing these findings, we aim to foster better understanding among key stakeholders. This, in turn, should lead to new attitudes, policies, laws, programs, and behaviors that respect and humanize Trans Latina Immigrants in the United States. These immigrants deserve a dignified life, the very reason they sought a new home here.

The TransLatin@ Coalition’s 2022 Annual Report outlines a year marked by growth, resilience, and impactful service delivery for Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, and Intersex (TGI) individuals. The organization expanded its capacity, offering comprehensive case management, legal services, housing support, mental health programs, and HIV prevention. They also led multiple advocacy efforts, securing significant legislative wins such as AB 2521, which provided $13 million for TGI health and wellness, and campaigned against anti-trans legislation. With over 7,500 services rendered, highlights include the H.O.P.E. House for transitional housing, the PrEParad@x HIV prevention program, and the launch of a new communications department that increased visibility. The report emphasizes ongoing dedication to fighting systemic discrimination and supporting TGI community members through activism and direct services.

Throughout 2021, despite facing challenges like increased violence and ongoing pandemic-related struggles, the organization expanded its services and physical space in Los Angeles. We provided thousands of meals, emergency relief funds, housing assistance, and legal services. Significant accomplishments include securing $13 million in funding for health services under AB-2218 and advocating for policies like SB 132 and SB 357 to enhance TGI rights and safety. Our programs, including the H.O.P.E. House for transitional housing and workforce development initiatives, empowered individuals by offering resources, skill-building, and support for stable living and employment.

The 2020 Annual Report of The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) details the organization's efforts to support transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex (TGI) individuals, especially Trans Latin@ communities, through comprehensive services and advocacy. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, TLC expanded vital services, such as food distribution, legal assistance, emergency housing, and violence prevention programs.
