In recent days, we have had to overcome the deadliest years against the TGI community in documented US history, at the hands of widespread Transphobia in this country. This time we have to defend ourselves from the systematic annihilation efforts of our community at the hands of public servants.
In their efforts to silence our voices, they are criminalizing our existence. Our survival has armored us with a voice that is amplified remembering each victim whose voice was cowardly silenced, many times by people who should have cared for them, respected them, and loved them.
The repressive system seeks to silence us; our resilience has taught us to shout. As one of the few Trans led organizations, The Translatin@ Coalition, has been creating a safe space for each person who belongs to the community to feel validated, welcomed, and inspired.
While these terrible attacks against our community are unfolding in front of our very eyes, in a secretive betrayal to TGI constituents in many parts of the country, we provide hope for better days, for a better quality of life through the services that we provide but also through the influencing of policy changes.
They have wanted to limit making decisions on our own bodies; our organization has just finalized a collaboration to facilitate comprehensive health services so that every TGI person can have access to gender-affirming services as well as total health monitoring.
They sought to block the educational system so that the new generations cannot have access to healthy sexual education, which we have implemented in our programs that help people live their sexual life in a safe and responsible way. That is why we have sex education and prevention programs.
While many doors have been closed to our community; from family, friends, and society in general, we have opened a transitional house in Los Angeles to support each individual to eventually regain their independence.
They are trying to shut the border to TGI individuals fleeing to safety; we have a legal team that provides direct assistance to Immigration and legal services.
Politicians have wanted to block access to a dignified life; we honor and validate the life of each TGI person. It is worth reminding you that, although our voice may sound broken many times, our fighting spirit remains intact.
