On Tuesday, April 11th, our President/CEO Bamby Salcedo testified on the Public Health: Transgender, Gender Variant, and Intersex Wellness Reentry Fund to voice support on AB1487 on the importance of the Reentry Services to our community.
Bamby shared her story personally, talking about her experience from 18 to 32 years old. “It was crazy that I had to experience horrible things while I was incarcerated, but if there were services that would’ve supported me when I was young, instead of going to prison and being violated by people who were incarcerated and by guards in many different ways, If I have had the opportunity to receive the services that I needed, for me not only to survive but thrive, I wouldn’t spend over 15 years of my life coming in and out of jail and prison” she stated.
The Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, and Intersex (TGI) people have been criminalized and underserved long enough. These vital resources are important to support our community and its development.
“We deserve to have a dignified life; we deserve to have a better quality of life in our state, rather than being continued to be criminalized and incarcerated simply because of who we are.”
