A special shoutout to our staff members, Yahni Rose and Emily Garcia, featured on the latest episode of the Reputation podcast hosted by Ethan Ward, where they opened up about their lived experiences navigating homelessness as a teenager.
In the episode, both talked about the barriers they faced while being in the foster care system as trans youths, from bullying to being disowned for being who they are. Yahni and Emily, two resilient trans women, turned their lives around and became full-time staff at The TransLatin@ Coalition.
Our President/CEO Bamby Salcedo also participated in this episode, providing her position as head of our organization, talking about her efforts to create safer spaces for trans, gender nonconforming, and intersex (TGI) people and the importance of support systems in the life of trans individuals.
The TransLatin@ Coalition is also training shelter staff to serve TGI clients better and create suitable conditions for those accessing the Los Angeles County shelter system. Also, we conduct assessments on the third Thursday of every month with Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to find housing options available to our clients.
