On February 13, advocates, community leaders, and allies joined forces at the Kenneth Hall of Administration in Los Angeles for the impactful Show Us Love rally. Organized by The TransLatin@ Coalition in collaboration with Mirror Memoirs, San Gabriel Valley LGBT Center, Unique Woman’s Coalition, and Gender Justice LA. The event aimed to raise awareness about the disparities faced by transgender individuals and push for tangible action from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
The rally provided a powerful platform for voices often marginalized and overlooked. Attendees gathered to spotlight the urgent need for funding and support for transgender-led organizations that provide vital, life-saving services to the community.
Participants shared stories, experiences, and demands for change in a moving display of solidarity. With impassioned speeches, the event showcased the resilience and strength of transgender individuals and their allies.
Central to the rally's message was the call for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to establish funding earmarked explicitly for transgender-led organizations. These organizations play a crucial role in providing essential services, support, and resources to transgender individuals, yet often face significant financial barriers.
“I am asking for all of us to work together to ensure that members of our [trans, gender nonconforming, and intersex] community and the livelihood of our communities are addressed, supported, and uplifted in the way we need. I know that we can do it; we can pivot together, so please, let’s do this together.” stated Bamby Salcedo, President/CEO of The TransLatin@ Coalition.
By coming together at the Show Us Love rally, attendees sent a powerful message to decision-makers: the time for action is now. Transgender and Gender Diverse communities deserve equitable access to resources, support, and opportunities to thrive. It is imperative that the County listens to our voices and takes concrete steps to address the systemic challenges and inequalities our TGI communities face.
As the rally concluded, the energy and determination in the air were palpable. While the fight for TGI rights and equality is far from over, events like these serve as a vital reminder that progress is possible when communities unite and demand change.
The Show Us Love rally may have ended, but its impact will continue to resonate, inspiring hope and driving momentum for a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
