TGI Wellness and Equity Initiative

Securing Historic Funding & Advancing Advocacy in Los Angeles County

The TGI Wellness and Equity (TGIWE) Initiative, led by The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC), is a groundbreaking community-driven advocacy campaign dedicated to securing resources and services for Trans, Gender Expansive, and Intersex (TGI) individuals in Los Angeles County.

Historic $7 Million Allocation

In November 2024, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $7 million budget allocation to support TGI communities. This funding, managed by the LA County Department of Public Health, will be used for:

  • Linkage to care & services coordination

  • Training & capacity-building for community-based organizations

  • Infrastructure development to expand access to county resources

This two-year pilot program will strengthen the network of services available to TGI individuals while ensuring long-term sustainability for grassroots organizations.

Community-Led Advocacy & Engagement

TLC and its partners engaged in ongoing budget advocacy efforts, including:

✔️ Regular meetings with local elected officials
✔️ Public mobilization & policy engagement
✔️ Educational presentations to key county commissions, including:

  • Commission on HIV

  • Commission for Women

  • Care First Community Investment

  • Gender Responsive Advisory Committee

  • Transgender Service Provider Network

  • LGBT+ Commission

  • Public Safety Realignment Team

What’s Next?

TLC remains committed to ensuring effective implementation of the TGIWE Initiative by continuing to work closely with all five LA County Supervisors. Looking ahead, we will launch a $3 million funding proposal to the City of Los Angeles in FY 25-26 to expand this critical work.
