In the solemn embrace of this Transgender Day of Remembrance, The TransLatin@ Coalition bows its head in honor of our departed community members. Their stories, struggles, and triumphs echo through time, serving as a poignant reminder of the fragility and strength within the transgender, gender nonconforming, and intersex community.

The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) and the Department of Chicana(o)/Latina(o) Studies (CLS) at Cal State Los Angeles collaborated on addressing the impact of COVID-19 in the TGI community in Los Angeles County.

Assembly Bill (AB) 1163, a groundbreaking bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Luz Rivas (D – San Fernando Valley) recently passed, expands the collection of demographic data to include voluntary self-identification information about sexual orientation and gender identity/expression (SOGIE).

The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC), in collaboration with the County of Los Angeles Anti-Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (ARDI) Initiative and other Trans, Gender non conforming, and Intersex (TGI)-led community organizations, co-hosted a Countywide TGI Needs Assessment Town Hall.

The recent Supreme Court decision overturning Affirmative Action has dealt a severe blow to the progress made in advancing equity and diversity in our nation. Deeming equity unconstitutional, the court undermines the ongoing efforts to level the playing field and create a more inclusive society.

In an essential display of advocacy, our staff members Terri Jay, and Arburtha Franklin, testified before senators in Sacramento about the benefits of AB 1487.
