Immigrants Are LA holds While You Were Out Rally to welcome LA County supervisors from time off, urge them to include immigrants in ARPA II
A year after supervisors announced Phase I disbursement of federal pandemic recovery funds, immigrants are still waiting to be included in a meaningful way
Los Angeles, CA – On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the Immigrants Are LA (IRLA) coalition will hold a While You Were Out rally to welcome Los Angeles County supervisors back from two weeks of time off, and to urge them to truly include immigrants as they decide how to spend Phase II of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) COVID recovery funds.
“We look forward to a continued direct investment for immigrant communities,” said Bamby Salcedo, president and CEO, The TransLatin@ Coalition, and IRLA co-chair. “The time is now for supervisors to allocate much needed funding for an equitable recovery for our communities. Immigrants throughout the county continue to be essential to our economy. Allocation and implementation of ARPA II funds need to reflect that.”
More than 100 immigrant rights organizations form IRLA, and we expect them to turn out in force to tell supervisors that while they were out of their offices, immigrants in Los Angeles County went hungry, lost jobs and homes, fell behind in school, faced COVID alone, and got no stimulus to make up for the economic damage from the pandemic.
At the While You Were Out rally, speakers will call attention to those disparities and will urge the supervisors to include immigrants more fully as they decide how to spend the remaining $975 million of ARPA funds.
