Our Policy Department is a component of The TransLatin@ Coalition that works for the betterment of the Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, and Intersex (TGI) community by advocating for TGI people to be included in city, county, and state budgets.
Recently, and almost daily, our community has been facing pushback from radical extremists who are afraid of our freedom and the courage we have to transcend into a being that is in tune with our bodies, minds, and souls.
“We are working with the county, passing a TGI Needs Assessment motion that directly addresses the need for collecting information about TGI people, because when we are not even counted, [our government institutions ask] how can we ask for a direct budget allocation,” stated Ace Anaya, Coordinator of Public Policy.
TLC is leading a statewide coalition called the California TGI Policy Alliance (CTPA) , a statewide network of TGI-led orgs working toward policy change in California, which worked to pass AB 2218 – The Transgender Wellness and Equity Fund.
AB 1163 would require specified state agencies and departments to revise their public-use forms by January 1, 2025, to be more inclusive of individuals who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, or intersex.
We are also sponsoring AB 1487, which will create the Transgender, Gender Variant, and Intersex Wellness Reentry Fund.
