The TransLatin@ Coalition stands with the growing number of LGBTQ+ and TGI-led organizations in the region who are against Downey City Councilmember Claudia Frometa’s recent appointment as President of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO).
On May 14th, 2024 she voted on a motion to enact a neutral flag policy, which only allows for government flags to be displayed.
Our organization recognizes the importance of pride flags being flown as they show signs of support, acceptance, and safety to many Transgender, Gender Expansive, and Intersex community members.
The TransLatin@ Coalition is disappointed in NALEO’s decision to appoint Councilmember Frometa as President of their organization.
We strongly believe that her leadership as a councilmember for the city of Downey and President of NALEO is a step in the wrong direction.
Her vote to enact the neutral flag policy invites bigotry and hatred to our community.
