The TransLatin@ Coalition and Somos Group Partner to Secure State Funding for Trans Wellness Center in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA – The TransLatin@ Coalition is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Somos Group to support efforts to secure critical funding for the development of a Trans Wellness Center in Los Angeles. This initiative aims to expand access to essential supportive services for the trans, gender expansive and intersex (TGI) community, and advancing equity and inclusion across the state at a pivotal moment when funding for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) organizations is under attack. This is particularly true for organizations like The TransLatin@ Coalition which serve TGI communities.
“The establishment of a Trans Wellness Center in Los Angeles is a critical step in addressing the systemic disparities faced by transgender, gender expansive, and intersex communities,” said Bamby Salcedo, President of The TransLatin@ Coalition. “With Somos’ partnership, we are confident that we are going to be able to secure the funding needed to bring this vision to life at this critical time for our communities.”
As part of this collaboration, Somos will provide strategic engagement and advocacy services to bolster The TransLatin@ Coalition’s engagement in Sacramento. This includes managing key political and community relationships, facilitating intra-group negotiations, and crafting narratives to drive legislative support.
“The TransLatin@ Coalition provides critical, life-saving services for residents in Los Angeles and throughout California,” said Alfred Fraijo, Jr., President and CEO of The Somos Group. “Our partnership with The TransLatin@ Coalition represents a significant step in advocating for the necessary resources and funding to establish a Trans Wellness Center. We are committed to leveraging our expertise and relationships to ensure that policymakers recognize the urgent need for this center and take action to make it a reality.”
Somos will lead targeted advocacy efforts with key legislators and committee members, ensuring that stakeholder perspectives are thoughtfully considered throughout the funding process. By maintaining strategic communication and engagement, the partnership aims to secure state investment in the Trans Wellness Center and expand vital services for TGI individuals in Los Angeles.
Founded in 2009, The TransLatin@ Coalition has emerged as a grassroots movement led by a group of TGI immigrant women in Los Angeles, California. Recognizing the urgent and unique needs of TGI Latin@ immigrants in the United States, these trailblazers came together to create a space for advocacy, empowerment, and direct support.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing healthcare access, social equity, and legislative progress for TGI individuals in California. Somos and The TransLatin@ Coalition will continue to engage lawmakers, community advocates, and allied organizations to ensure that trans communities receive the support and resources they deserve.
