The TransLatin@ Coalition is having a press conference to demand Investment in the lives of TGI people that live in Los Angeles County
In honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence that year. 2021 mark[ed] the most deadly year recorded with at least 57 transgender people, most of them Black or Latinx, killed. (HRC-2021)
On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, LA County Board of Supervisors will meet for the last public meeting this session, ahead of the week of Trans Remembrance Day. We urge the Board to #SupportTGILives and communities in LA County to Address the Impact of Inequitable Access to Wellness for TGI People in Los Angeles County that will directly impact work being built to move towards restorative, and holistic health resources for Transgender, Gender-Nonconforming, and Intersex people.
What: The TransLatin@ Coalition is having a press conference to demand Investment in the lives of TGI people that live in Los Angeles County by directing a comprehensive internal County Community Needs Assessment, which is imperative for investing intentionally in the lives of TGI people by expanding health, mental health, anti violence, creative healing, social and economic development.
Why: Despite existing policies, TGI people, especially Trans Women of Color, experience a significant lack of equitable access to significant health services and pathways to safe permanent housing. Therefore the reason for the Community Needs Assessment is vital to the allocation of the funding for this issue affecting the TGI community.
When: November 15, 2022.
